Virus alert!!!
There has been a virus traveling around the internet for some time now but it is increasing within the community that uses this site.
--- WORM_KLEZ ---

This virus affects systems that run I.E. outlook and do not have the latest security updates. To learn more about the specifics of this virus please visit http://www.trendmicro.com/en/security/advisories/klez.htm

The virus infects a computer and can do damage depending on the variant of the virus. The version going around is the WORM_KLEZ.H file. Here is the important information on what it does to infect others. The virus sends itself out to everyone listed in the infected computers address book using its own SMTP engine. It picks one person from the address book and lists them as the sender, therefor hiding the original person with the infected computer. So, when you get an e-mail with the WORM_KLEZ.H virus it has not been sent by the person who is listed as the sender. All it means is that the infected computer had both the recipient and the listed sender in their address book. If you have been sent this virus and it says it was sent from webmaster@stlmusic.com, this means the virus was sent from someone you have talked to and someone that I have talked to. Since many people e-mail me at the webmaster address regarding the site it's only reasonable that my address is going to pop-up as the sender of this virus every once in a while. I receive this virus on average of 7 times a day. Once again, if you have a virus scanner (one that scans incoming mail is good) and the latest updates for I.E. this virus won't affect you. But don't be surprised if someone e-mails you one day asking why you sent them a virus. The good news will be, you didn't.

The WORM_YAHA virus seems to be showing up more and more as well. I think it spreads the same way.

Buying Scam

I, and a few other people have received e-mails from one person that has used different names. Here are a few samples:

This letter was sent to this person again pertaining a different item that didn't even deal with music. Just substitute the "ampeg svt3pro head.E.T.C with screen" with the word "dogs" and you have the second letter they received. It's obvious this person is using a form and just plugging in the item. I wouldn't be surprised if this person is sending out hundreds of letters a day.

Delete any message like this. You should be cautious when dealing with out of town ads. This is why.

This is the original information that was posted to the site ----- If you received an e-mail from someone wishing to buy your items that are listed and wants you to ship it for them please take note. A user of the site was made an offer from a person claiming to be located outside the U.S. The buyer offered to pay shipping and would send a cashiers check to pay for the cost of the item and shipping. A cashiers check did arrive for a much larger sum than expected. $5000 more. The buyer then asked that the item be shipped and the extra $5000 to be sent back. It turned out the cashiers check was a counterfeit. But this wasn't discovered until the bank called the seller to let him know. He is now out $5000.

A month ago I was contacted by this same person saying he was from Nigeria. He wanted to buy my alto saxophone that I have listed on the site. I make it a policy to only do business with people I can meet in person, which is why I only let people sell items on the site that live within a driveable range of St. Louis. This person kept trying to talk me into selling the sax, saying that he needed it for his church. I told him sorry but I would not do business with him. I ignored the rest of the e-mail's he sent requesting the saxophone. Other site users have e-mailed me to let me know this person has made multiple contacts on the site.

My point being, be very cautious when selling to individuals you can't meet. If you write a good ad and have a fair price, you will be able to sell your items to someone in the local area.
